An Interview with Marissa Meyer, Author of Instant Karma
By Team Fierce Reads
Marissa Meyer is BACK, this time with her very first romcom! If you love books set in coastal towns that are packed with swoons, you absolutely won’t want to miss this adorable new release. But if you need more incentive to add this book to your shelves, be sure to check out this interview with Marissa herself!
What makes Prudence fierce?
Prudence is a true go-getter. She's super ambitious and smart. She knows what she wants and where she's going, and she's willing to put in the hard work to get there.
If you could give Prudence one piece of advice, what would it be?
Loosen up and have some fun! (JUST KIDDING. She hates it when people tell her that, rightfully so.) I would tell Prudence that not everything is black and white, good or bad. Life is full of gray areas. People have different priorities, goals, dreams, interests, ambitions, even principals - and that's okay! It doesn't make them wrong, just like her choices don't always make her right. The world is better when we're a little bit more open and accepting, and willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.
If you'd met Prudence as a teen, would you have been friends and why?
Prudence is so much like Teen Me that I think it's much more likely we would have been enemies than friends. I can totally see the two of us competing to be the teacher's pet or top of the class. She would have kept me on my toes!
What's your favorite part of being an author?
It's hard to choose just one "favorite" thing. I love creating stories and the problem solving aspect that comes along with figuring out a complicated subplot or plot twist. I love meeting readers and hearing how they've connected with my characters in sometimes really powerful ways. And I really love what I think of as the "lifestyle" of being a writer. Getting some words done first thing in the morning, enjoying a cup of coffee and a cozy blanket. Or having writing retreats with a good group of writer friends, drinking wine, and talking shop. It's the sort of job you can do anywhere, at any time, and I love that freedom.
What 3 words would you use to describe Instant Karma?
Music. Environmentalism. Swooning.
